PURSES WITH PROVENANCE

The ROSENFELD PURSE

Every once in a while, you are lucky enough to find a very special piece. Sometimes it is because of the materials used, sometimes the theme, sometimes just because it is. This is one of those purses.

I PURCHASED THIS FROM SUE…it was her grandmother’s

the purse of LILLIAN LANSHE

(very French) Her grandmother was one of 10 children and only two girls! In the family there were nuns, lawyers, doctors, and priests. She married a banker. They traveled all over Europe, and Sue remembers, going to see them off on a Pan Am flight and when she was little.

Lilly was born in 1890’s - her Rosenfeld purse is Mid 20th Century

She had a horse named Cherry, and Lillian rode in a surrey with fringe. Sue, her granddaughter used to love listening to the stories her grandmother told of a family that loved to garden, play bridge, and gourmet clubs…. perfect memories to hold in a special purse.

An IROQUOIS BEADED PURSE

From the Lake Champlain area, and made for tourists in late 1800

A PURSE with HISTORY - telling the story of an American Family

Made for tourists in late 1800’s by the indigenous people in the lake Champlain ..  as told to me by David Vickers

It belonged to my late wife, Kathryn Collier Vickers, who grew up in Port Henry, New York, on the shores of Lake Champlain. She inherited it from her mother, Ruth Richardson Collier, who also lived most of her life in Port Henry. Grandmas Ruth, in turn, got it from her mother Edith Foote Richardson, who was born in 1894, and died at age 94, I believe, in Port Henry, where she was raised.

Their lineage dates directly back to the Mayflower and includes such historical figures as Nathaniel Foote, John Proctor (the last "witch" hung in the Salem Witch Trials) and Solomon Foote, who was a member of Lincoln's cabinet. They were quite a family, but that should provide adequate provenance for your purse.”
